Oiseau

So it is no secret that birds are the things to have and hold these days. For the past few years it seems that everywhere you go there are at least 10 different pieces of bird merchandise to satisfy your need of your feathery friends. I have to admit that I have fallen into the bird situation, but have tried to limit my flock.

One of the jewelry lines that I work with has, I believe, done the bird well. Figs & Ginger is a husband and wife team based out of Asheville, NC who specialize in Eco-friendly sterling silver earrings, necklaces and soon a wedding line as well. Elijah and Rhonda try their hardest to use only recycled silver and gold to create their pieces.

On a side note...
When JP and I were going through the ring process, the jeweler who we were working with recycled the gold from the setting of the stones that had been passed down from our families. Not only did this save us some money, but we were happy to hear that the left overs were not just going to waste. It's nice to know that they might go into creating a meaningful piece for someone else.

So I encourage you to take a look at their site, at the very least their whimsical designs should put a smile on your face. And being a fan of all things woodland creatureish I have to give Figs & Ginger two thumbs up on their deer collection as well.

Finishing Touches

The one thing that I still do not have nailed down for the wedding is what jewelry I should wear. I think that for the ceremony I will probably go with a mid sized dual strand pearl, perhaps tapering in size from front to back. And I guess pearls for earrings as well, not a statement, I am aware, but I do like the simplicity of it. I feel like I should be very pulled together for the ceremony, but after that I am free to go. So, while some brides choose to have different dresses, for different times during the wedding celebration, I really like the idea of spicing things up a bit by simply changing accessories. I was looking at the Anthropologie web site this evening and found some nice pieces, well a necklace that I really love, and some earrings that I thought might be nice for someone who wanted to have some fun but not too much. But it is key to remember that you should keep balance in mind and choose either to have the earrings, or the necklace be the statement, not both. (I have been known to do this, but don't recommend it!)

I also think that a wonderful piece of jewelry makes a great gift for people who you are thanking at the wedding, but not necessarily for them to wear during the wedding. Try to find a designer who they really like, or if you are at a craft/art fair and see something that just so perfectly fits your maid of honor, go ahead and get it. Who cares if they can't use their gift in the wedding, probably better because they might be game for wearing it in real every day life. And if you are a laid back bride, I like to think that I am, you can let the attendants choose their accessories, and if you chose your gift wisely she will love it so much that she will want to wear it right away. So those are my thoughts on that.

Wedding gifts galore

Today was a big day. We received our first wedding gifts. Well gift with a few goodies in it. JP was ecstatic because the gift was centered around glasses that he registered for. Even Porter got into the action and scratched at the box helping to tear the paper and open the gift, it was really a family affair.

We also learned today that the photographer that we liked will not be able to work with us so we are on the hunt again. She referred me to a few other people, one of which I had already seen and given a strong no to, and the other two I was unfamiliar with. Hopefully the gentleman who we liked will be around in the summer, looking at his photos it looks like, in true Telluride fashion, he travels a lot.

JP made it home safely from his trip at about 11:20pm on Saturday night. It was a long haul but everything turned out well in the end. Porter was excited to see him and is adjusting back into his normal routine.

And one more thing. We are starting to compile music for the big day and would love to know what songs are meaningful or great lasting songs in your opinions. We are looking for anything and everything and cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Kitchen Galore

Today was our registry day at Williams and Sonoma. I think that we were there for about 3 hours. Who knew that there was so much to decide on... I was wiped out by the time that we left. I think that we went a little crazy, well perhaps a lot, but the ladies there were so nice and they kept encouraging us to register for everything that we might ever want, so we did. I am really excited about the yogurt maker, I have wanted one for years. JP does not quite understand why we need one, but I convinced him to just go along with it.
